MS Access sucks

Before I continue, I just want you to know that this is not an anti-MS post, not even against Office; it is against MS Access as a development environment.

So you open the thing (MS Access) and things look simple: Tables, Queries, Forms etc...
You begin by creating a few tables and their relations, everything's cool... until "There was something wrong here but I won't tell you because I am a bitch".
Really, the error messages there are horrifying, you open the help and it floods you with so much crap that you just feel like re-doing everything.

Tables are done? no problem we have another challenge for you; make a form:
The form designer is so unattractive and inappropriate, I mean, if you look at real development environments, form designers look solid while in Access, you get something like a Word document designer.

And what pisses me off mostly with using Access is the lack of programmatical freedom; things are way too automatic there, you get a feeling that things aren't in your control and you somehow navigate this whole project until it's finished.

Anyway, let's get to the bottom of things... let's ask ourselves what MS Access is supposed to do?
So it was aimed for people who are not programmers who want to create information systems for their organizations... but let's get real, is it even possible to create a decent information system without using a little bit of programming?
I believe it was an attempt to mix between Office and Visual Basic and whatever.

So people, don't use MS Access unless a) you have to or b) you are masochist.

World Cup again

Yeah, I'd write about other stuff... but it seems like nothing bothers me other than the World Cup today... and some personal issues but you didn't come here to listen to personal stuff.

Anyway, England did it, they edged Ecuador 1-0... David Beckham scored a great free kick but other than that brought on a poor display, but I do want to see him encouraged, after all, I don't hate the player, I actually think he's a good player... did a mistake by going to Real Madrid and becoming a model, well, a football career mistake (he himself said that football is all what matters to him and all the other stuff are just a bonus).

But we aren't going to talk about Beckham that much...
So Brazil stole a victory from Ghana (3-0)... despite the margin, two goals were illegal (offside) and really, Ghana played way more than expected that I dare to stay they played a lot better than Brazil and showed great opprotunities to score goals... unlucky.

Switzerland vs Ukraine was a nightmare (0-0, Ukraine won in penalties 3-0)...
I can't believe how ridiculous that game was, really, if you can't sleep at night, get this game on DVD and watch till you doze off (shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes).
P.S. Switzerland broke a mundial (World Cup) record by not scoring even one goal in penalties.

I didn't watch the other games so I can't judge, but I heard that Australia were also unlucky to have a poor referee in the match against Italy, giving a penalty in injury time, 30 seconds before whistle which snapped a 1-0 edge win.

Anyway, this World Cup somehow dissapoints the fans because of the low score and mostly because of the poor refereeing, I mean, the games were literally sold to the favourite teams, everything happens as expected and the matches are boring, I hope the quarter finals would worth to watch, I know that I can enjoy any England game, but other than that... come on.

So let's focus again on England;
Last game, Eriksson appeared to have listened to my advice, they played 4-5-1 with Gerrard, Lampard and Carrick as central midfielders, he also put Owen Hargreaves as a right defender, a move which I doubted at first but looking at how well this player can play defensively, I admired the manager's desicion (although, me and Eriksson have a lot to settle before I see eye to eye with him)
It really worthed to use that tactic it because they had a lot of control in midfield... Joe Cole as usual, gave his best and I hope Jose Mourinho spotted that and won't dry him on the bench (Chelsea...).
As for the next game against Portugal (I heard the match between The Netherlands and Portugal was more like world wrestling entertainment than football), actually considering Portugal's last match, I can see them coming with a lack of moral and England wants to show what they can do finally, I really hope for England that they make it to the semi-finals... good luck boys.

That's it for the World Cup, please share your comments if you see this post.

Football maybe? (Soccer in American)

Yeah, the world cup's going on and the group stages are ending... Now there's one team I do want to focus on which is England's national team, not only because I am a fan of English football and really like the English players but also because I am sick and tired of hearing about national teams like Brazil or Argentina.

A few tips to Eriksson (England's Swedish Manager):
4-5-1:
Let's admit, you got an injured target man (Michael Owen, hope you get back quickly) and an inexperienced, clumsy, a bit egoist striker (Peter Crouch).
If you didn't give up on real strikers other than Wayne Rooney you might as well be able to count on the attack, but instead you bring in a kid (sorry, Theo, but you will get your time) and a power line, while you can easily get top class guys like Defoe.
Let's just accept this mistake, now, you only got one striker you can count on which is Wayne Roone and a bunch of top class midfielders? so what you do, you switch tactics;
Instead of the old fashioned 4-4-2, you could switch to 4-5-1 and let Frank Lampard play as attacking midfielder, Steven Gerrard as central defender and Owen Hargreaves as defensive midfielder.
This would be terrific because you have full control in midfield and it's not like any of the strikers did anything in this campaign; goal scorers - Gerrard (2), Joe Cole (1), David Beckham (caused an own goal) and only with luck Peter Crouch (1).
We got 4 goals from the midfield and only 1 from the attack... you don't have to be a world class manager to figure that something's wrong.
Ahh, and Beckham is playing bad, take him out and put Downing on the left side, let Joe Cole play the right.

Steven Gerrard:
Quit the bullshit and don't tell Steven Gerrard to play defensively, if there's one player on England's side who can score goals out of nothing it would be Gerrard... you got Owen Hargreaves who can chase after players and bring the ball back.

Frank Lampard:
Another reason to not let Steven Gerrard play defensively is that he and Frank Lampard have to learn how too coordinate well, if they do so you just bought the best two long shooters in the world... quite dangerous.

And that's it basically, enjoy the world cup.

Ahem...

I didn't think that I'd be doing it... but here I am having my blog on blogspot.
Actually, it's not my first time that I have a blog, last time I actually used my reseller hosting account but now it's gone (the hosting company was the most irreliable piece of crap on the planet).
Anyway, I don't have the time to mess with another hosting company, don't think I have the money too, so I'd just use this rather simple service that allows me to write a bunch of stuff nobody really cares about, but if I do it constantly then it might become popular.
